The rise of the independent musician is set for ‘detonate’. I mean, just look at what Amanda Palmer did just through her Kickstarter project! In the same spirit, I’ve decided to include reviews meant to promote independent artists, whether they’re musicians, vloggers, painters, writers, actors/directors etc. And this one would be the first.
Lazerface – An Independent Musician from Romania
At first, I wasn’t very familiar with Bandcamp, but a friend convinced me to try it out and then review it on Re-Cognition. As I was browsing through the website, I came across this artist. I picked him probably because I’ve just started watching Star Trek, The Original Series. After reading through the tags for the album, I suddenly became curios and hit play on the first song. Oh, yeah – on his page, you can listen to the entire album for free. Getting back to that first song: it’s called Hitchcock. Think ‘The Master Filmmaker, Now a Musical in Dubstep Tech Electronic’ and you pretty much get the idea. And yes, I do mean that as a huge compliment!
I feel like the artist managed to pack quite a lot of diversity in style, in what it seems is a short album. Except that it’s not – it’s about 48 minutes long, stretched across 13 songs. And let me tell you, you’re in for a ride!
So make sure you visit his Bandcamp page and listen to his songs. If you like them, remember that you can also buy the album. It costs a minimum of 5 Euros (or $6.85), or more – if you would like to support him even further. This will allow you to download it and have exclusive access to the artist’s second E.P. entitled “The Shadow” as well! I say we encourage such artists and cut out the ‘middle man’ who’s often stifling their talent.
