This is truly a unique website, offering all sorts of things, from news to popular culture items explained through charts. The site is the idea and creation of Hilary Sargent who was offered a job at Boston.com in the meanwhile. She joined the Boston team on 15 January, 2014 and, so far, I couldn’t find out whether or not she’ll be continuing ChartGirl (her last update on the website was in December 2013 – I’m writing this in late February 2014).
ChartGirl – Easy Charts for Complicated Issues
Her widespread popularity stems from tackling a series of popular stories through creating charts around them. From the Boston Bombings to Donald Trump, the Cheney sisters and even Taylor Swift – Hilary pretty much sets off on covering anything she deems interesting or important.
The charts presented on her website are full of humor, easy to read and simple to make sense of. Her language is often free of inhibitions which makes the charts she presents even more fun to read. They are all featured in black and white and come as ready-for-print .pdf files. Her main page lets you scroll up to the very first chart she posted back in November, 2012 (which was actually drawn by hand).
So if you enjoy a little bit of text entertainment, ChartGirl is definitely the place to be right now. Given the fact that there are not too many charts in total, you can easily read though all of them in a few lazy afternoons. And trust me – it’s well-worth it.
